Provided by Sister Aurora #14 - Lakshmi Sukumaran: "It's amazing how much one's perceptions on Greek life can change in a few months. Before associating, I naiively thought that fraternities and sororities were a way to buy friends. However, during the association process, my misconceptions faded. I came to realize that the bond sisters share is built on trust. They have a deep understanding of one another and share common goals. For Delta Kappa Delta, these goals are achieved through service. Rabindranath Tagore once said, "I slept and dreamt that life was joy, I awoke and saw that life was service, I acted and behold, service was joy." This is our motto, and it reflects our mission: to find joy through service. As we do service together, we share our blessings with the community. These acts of service strengthen our sisterhood hold it together through the best and worst of times. It is an unparalleled feeling at the end of the day knowing that the hours we sacrifice bring hope and happiness to those who don't have the things we take for granted. The hours I have spent with my sisters are ones I will always look back on with warmth. I have had many close friends before, but this sisterhood is unique. In working with my sisters, I have learned the importance of respect, compassion, and responsibility. These are values that are widely known, but rarely understood. When dealing with the business aspect of being a sister, it is important to stay open minded. Compromises must be made for any organization to perform well. Once the business is taken care of, the true sisterhood remains. A sisterhood in which a sister is the first person you go to for an ear to listen and a warm hug; a sisterhood built through service."
